Divorces can take an emotional toll on us. For many women, body confidence takes a significant hit after a divorce. Of course, these feelings are entirely normal, but they don’t have to control your life.
Here are some things you can do to restore your body confidence and feel like yourself again.
Give Yourself Time
Give yourself time to heal emotionally from a divorce before you try to move on. A divorce can be a very traumatic experience, and it can take months or even years to recover fully from the emotional fallout.
It’s good to cry and feel those emotions. So let all of those emotions out. Remember that you are a fantastic person with a lot to offer.
Get Moving
You may have lost weight during the divorce process or carry extra stress in your body.
Exercise has proven mood-boosting effects. It can reduce stress, increase energy levels, and boost body confidence.
Start slow with some basic exercises like walking or yoga. Then, as you get stronger and more confident, you can add more, like dancing or even boxing.
Eat Healthy Foods
You can feel emotionally and mentally drained from a divorce. And during this time, it’s easy to let your diet slip. As a result, you might eat more junk food or comfort foods than usual. What you put in directly affects how you act. It can have effects on your physical and mental state.
Eating healthy foods and maintaining a balanced diet are the best things you can do for yourself during this difficult time. It will help you restore your body confidence and improve your body image. And when you feel better about yourself, your body and mind will be equipped to handle the challenges of divorce.
Indulge in Self-Care
Self-care can help you restore your body image and confidence. Self-care shows you that it’s okay to give yourself some TLC. There are endless ways to practice self-care, but here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Get a massage or a mani/pedi
- Take yourself on a shopping spree
- Go on a weekend getaway or brunch with your girlfriends
- Splurge on your favorite food or dessert
No matter how you choose to practice self-care, make sure you do it for yourself and not anyone else. You need to love yourself, divorce or not.
Reach Out For Support
Your friends and family can offer you so much support. They will be there with open arms, a glass of wine, a shoulder to cry on, and a rom-com.
If you’re not ready to talk to your friends and family about your divorce, there are many other divorce support groups, therapy groups, and even online forums. In addition, you can find support and understanding from other women who have experienced the same thing as you.
